#23 Farewell Learning 2.0

At last, the end!

I've rediscovered and learnt about many websites available on the Internet since start this program. Plus I've further refined my skills since I spend a lot of my time helping others using this program go through the exercises.

Overall the program was well structured but I found that the instructions were not well compiled and were sometimes difficult to follow. For example the instructions for each "exercise" was on a separate page from the rest of that weeks activities / exercises meaning that it was very easy to skip an exercise without realising it. Also I found that there was an assumed level of computer skills and knowledge that you would need to have before starting this program, a beginner to the Internet and navigating websites would have a difficult time using the program, sadly that includes some librarians and library officers I know. Perhaps if there was a program to do before this one that shows you the basics of "surfing the net" and computer skills more people would find the program easier to use and less of "a task" to complete.

One major problem I have noticed is that some people are having difficulty relating some of the exercises to the program and then seeing the relevance to "us" in the library situations. I understand that the one of the points of the program is to get "us" to think about these questions but if there were perhaps and few pointers of possible applications to libraries maybe you could change peoples mindsets on the activities so that they come away with a more positive attitude and outlook instead of being discouraged and confused as to why they are learning about this particular item/subject/object/theory etc ...

So glad I'm finished with the exercises! Now it's just a matter of finishing off my help section and answering anyone's questions that they have about the exercises.

"Klaatu barada nikto" Space Cadet Beta,

Congratulations on finishing the programme and the interesting feedback along the way. Perhaps some of us need a bit more than "self-directed learning"! "Ease of use" and "having a library experience" are certainly the way of the future for libraries..... let's hope that we remain relevant for a while longer.

Cheers, Paul.
